  ABSTRACT

BIOCHEMICAL CHANGES IN ESSENTIAL OIL OF ETLINGERA LINGUIFORMIS (ROXB.) R.M.SM. AS INFLUENCED BY CURVULARIA LUNATA VAR. AERIA

An investigation was carried out to study the difference in quantity of essential oils obtained from healthy and Curvularia infected leaf and rhizome of Etlingera linguiformis at different levels of infection by GC analysis. Result showed a marked difference in the oils with regards to oil recovery. Healthy leaves yielded 1.15% oil whereas healthy rhizome yielded yielded 1.40% oil. The percentage decrease of major constituents of oil from diseased leaves and rhizomes were found to be 33.76%, 47.19%, 49.82%, 47.57% 50.31% and 61.48%, 45.41%, 54.53%, 56.76%, 61.78% respectively as compared to healthy plants.
