  ABSTRACT

IN VITRO IMMUNOSTIMULATING EFFECTS OF AQUEOUS AND METHANOL EXTRACTS OF ANTHOCLEISTA VOGELII PLANCH (LOGANIACEAE)

Anthocleista vogelii is a medicinal plant widely used for the treat ment of many diseases. The aim of this study was to investigate the in vitro immune stimulating potential of aqueous and methanol extracts of the stem bark of this plant with concentrations ranging from 2500 μg/ml to 312, 5 μg/ml. The activities of the different extracts were evaluated on cytotoxicity; on lymphocyte proliferation induced by BCG, LPS and PHA; on phagocytosis by nitroblue of tétrazolium assay, on lysosomal activity, on myeloperoxydase activity and nitric oxide production. The results obtained have shown that extracts do not affect the cellular viability and induced lymphocyte proliferation using mitogens (11.11 % to 12.02 %). Extracts have significantly affect macrophages activities because phagocytosis (65.90 % to 120.84 %), lysosomalactivity (20.61 % to 43.29 %), myeloperoxydase activity (17.52 % to 55. 67 %) and nitric oxide activity (50.89 % to 83.33 %) have significantly increased. These results indicated that Anthocleista vogelii can improve immostimulatory potential of the immune system of organism who consums it
