TO STUDY THE ASSOCIATION OF SERUM HOMOCYSTIENE LEVEL WITH VITTILIGO, A STUDY IN A TERTIARY CARE HOSPITAL
Vitiligo is a common cutaneous depigmentation disorder caused by the destruction of melanocytes. The exact etiopathogenesis of this disorder is not well known, but a complex of genetic, immunologic, inflammatory, and cytotoxic factors have been implicated. According to reports on the role of vitamin B12 and folic acid deficiency as important cofactors in the metabolism of homocysteine, we expected an increase in homocysteine levels in patients with vitiligo; therefore, our aim was to investigate the serum levels of homocysteine in Iranian patients with vitiligo. This study was conducted in Sri Lakshmi Narayana Institute of Medical sciences, Pondicherry. 70 Patients were selected while the non vitiligo patients were 30 for this study.Vitiligo is associated with elevated levels of serum homocysteine and decreased levels of vitamin B12
