purpose of the present study was to evaluate scientifically the anticonvulsant activity of Chloroform and Methanol extract of
leaves of the plant Vigna radiata in albino Wistar rats on electrically and chemically induced seizures. The anti‐convulsant
activity of different extracts of Vigna radiata leaves was studied against seizures induced by maximal electroshock seizures
(MES). In the MES test, the methanol extract (100 & 200mg/kg, i. p) Vigna radiata of leaves showed the most significant
(p<0.01) anticonvulsant effect by decreasing the duration of Hind Limb Tonic Extension (HLTE), clones and also the duration
of stupor phase than other extracts when compared to control group. The ED50 dose of Phenytoin (25 mg/kg, i.p) was used as
standard. In conclusion it was realized that methanol extract (ED50 = 100 & 200 mg/kg, i.p) is more potent than other extracts in
showing anti-seizure effects.
<Email> pharma.nisha@gmail.com</Email><articletype>Research</articletype><volume>3</volume><issue>7</issue><year>2012</year><keyword>Vigna radiata,Methanol extract,Chloroform extract,Maximal electroshock-induced convulsions</keyword><AUTHORS>M.
