quadrangularis and fruit pulp of Aegle marmelos (c-EACQAM) and combined ethanol extract of stem bark of Cissus
quadrangularis and fruit pulp Aegle marmelos (c-ECQAM) by determining its toxicity after acute and chronic administration in
albino rats. Study on acute toxicity of extract found to be safe at the doses 2000mg/kg body weight orally as per OECD
guidelines No.423. In the chronic toxicity study, the c-EACQAM and c-ECQAM were administered orally at doses of 250 and
500 mg/kg once a day for 90days to rats. Biochemical and hematological parameters were determined after 90days. Results
found that no significant treatment-related changes in the levels of haematological, hepatic and renal parameters such as SGOT,
SGPT, cholesterol, creatinine, urea, protein and glucose, and serum ALP activities were observed at the termination of the
study. It suggests that the c-EACQAM and c-ECQAM does not produce significant toxicity. Therefore the both extracts can
consumed as traditional medicine, there is a wide margin of safety.
<Email>premajeny@gmail.com</Email><articletype>Research</articletype><volume>3</volume><issue>7</issue><year>2012</year><keyword>Aegle marmelos, Cissus quadrangularis,Traditional Medicine,Chronic Toxicity, haematological, hepatic and renal parameters</keyword><AUTHORS> Rathinam Prema,Dhana sekaran Satheesh sekar,Kothapalli Bannoth Chandra Sekhar,Somasundaram Jeevanandham</AUTHORS><afflication>Research Scholar, Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh, India - 515002,Arignar Anna College (Arts & Science), Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu, India - 635 001.,Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh, India - 515 002., Santhiram College of Pharmacy, Nandyal, Andhra Pradesh, India - 518 112.</afflication></Article></Articles>
