<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?><Articles><Article><id>23</id><JournalTitle>ANTI-ANDROGENIC AND PREVENTIVE EFFECT OF VEDI ANNABEDI CHENDURAM â€“ A SIDDHA FORMULATION AGAINST BENIGN PROSTATIC HYPERPLASIA (BPH)</JournalTitle><Abstract>This article deals with the effective pharmacological actions of Vedi annabedi chenduram over male reproductive
system. Vedi Annabedi Chenduram is a traditional formulation used for the treatment of various ailments in siddha system of
medicine. In the present study, anti-androgenic potential and protective effect of Vedi Annabedi Chenduram (6.3mg/kg) over
Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia was assessed in male wistar rats. The different parameters that supports anti-androgenic
potential of vedi annabedi chenduram are, decrease in male reproductive organ weights such as testes, seminal vesicles and the
prostate gland, decrease in testosterone levels, decrease in sperm count and decrease in sperm motility as compared to normal
animals. This anti-androgenic potential of the formulation has been utilized to test the preventive effect on Benign Prostatic
Hyperplasia (BPH). The results show a preventive effect of the formulation on BPH by decreasing the elevated serum acid
phosphatase level, elevated organ weights and restoring the normal cellular pattern of prostate gland.</Abstract><Email>Dept. of Pharmaceutical sciences, Periyar college of pharmaceutical sciences, Thiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu.
