It results an excessive accumulation of lipids
in blood. It may lead to hypercholesterolemia, hypertriglyceridemia or both. Dyslipidemia or hyperlipidemia gives rise to
various grave diseases like obesity, hypertension, atherosclerosis and strokes. Herbal remedies plays vital role in the regression
of hyperlipidemic disorders with least side effects. One of the most extensively explored and examined herbal drug extracted
from the plant Guggul-Commiphora wightii (Arn.) Bhandari is reputed for its hypolipidemic action. In the present study, the
effect of ethyl acetate extract of C. wightii resins (EACWR) on the down regulation of HMG Co.A reductase activity have been
investigated in hyperlipidemic rats elicited by high fat diet for 60 days. The study design included six groups of rats (n=6):
Control and hyperlipidemic rats while other four groups of hyperlipidemic rats treated with ethyl acetate extract of C. wightii
(200, 400 and 800 mg/kg bw) and statins 1.5 mg/kg bw. Results of the present study confirmed the most effective significant
reduction (p<0.05) occurs at EACWR (400 mg/kg bw) in HMG-CoA reductase activity, oxidative stress and body weight near
to control. It also improves liver functions in hyperlipidemic animal models. This investigation is also warranting its
hypolipidemic activity.
<Email>sandeeptripathiphd@gmail.com</Email><articletype>Research</articletype><volume>4</volume><issue>6</issue><year>2013</year><keyword> Commiphora wightii,Hyperlipidemia, HMG-CoA reductase</keyword><AUTHORS>Madhvi Bhardwaj,Anupam Kumar,Sandeep Tripathi,Sandeep Kumar</AUTHORS><afflication>Department of Advance Sciences & Biotechnology, Nims Institute of Engineering & Technology, NIMS University, Shobha Nagar, Jaipur, Rajasthan, India,Department of Biotechnology, Lovely Professional University, Jalandhar, Punjab, India.,Department of Advance Sciences & Biotechnology, Nims Institute of Engineering & Technology, NIMS University, Shobha Nagar, Jaipur, Rajasthan, India,Department of Advance Sciences & Biotechnology, Nims Institute of Engineering & Technology, NIMS University, Shobha Nagar, Jaipur, Rajasthan, India</afflication></Article></Articles>
