bioavailability thereby increasing its therapeutic efficacy. Suppositories are prepared by using different type of PEGs base by
fusion method. Six different formulations using the PEGs base were prepared with different ratios. These suppositories were
evaluated for different parameters such as Physical Appearance, weight variation, disintegration time, drug uniformity content,
melting time, hardness, softening time, dissolution studies and stability studies were also conducted. Among the formulated
PEGs suppositories, The studies revealed that the higher proportion PEGs 1500 or low molecular weight PEGs combination
gave grater release and better dissolution behavior overall increases in following order F4< F3< F6< F5< F1< F2. The
formulation F2 showed maximum dissolution of 99.99% in 30 min while Formulation F4 showed the lowest drug release that is
67.53 in 6 hr .Thus it can be concluded that the drug release from suppositories depend on type and composition of base used.
Hence altering the composition it is possible to achieve suppositories formulation showing optimal drug release and therefore
better bioavailability. The formulation F2 can be suggested as the most suitable formulation for rectal delivery of the drug.
<Email>kamleshmankind@yahoo.com</Email><articletype>Research</articletype><volume>4</volume><issue>9</issue><year>2013</year><keyword>Medicated suppository,Clindamycin phosphate,Clindamycin</keyword><AUTHORS>Kamlesh Kumar,Y.S.
