using Cellulose acetate phthalate (CAP), Eudragit S-100 and Eudragit L-100 as a coating material by compression coating
technique. The colon drug delivery system is designed such that the innermost part consists of a core tablet of Mesalamine with
polymers HPMC of different grades which is then compression coated with pH dependent polymers CAP, Eudragit S-100 and
L-100 that offers a greater degree of protection from premature drug release in upper GI tract. The prepared core and coated
tablets were evaluated for both pre compression and post compression parameters and they were complied with I.P limits. The
in vitro drug release studies were conducted in simulated gastric fluid (pH 1.2), simulated intestinal (pH 7.4) and simulated
intestinal fluid (pH 6.8) to simulate gastro intestinal tract. From the above results, the Eudragit S-100 formulation was
considered better among other formulations. From FTIR studies, it was concluded that there was no possibility for drug
excipient interaction.
<Email>sandhyapasikanti@gmail.com</Email><articletype>Research</articletype><volume>4</volume><issue>9</issue><year>2013</year><keyword> Colon specific drug delivery, Eudragit S-100, FTIR studies, Inflammatory Bowel Disease</keyword><AUTHORS>P.
