290MELT IN MOUTH FILMS- AN EFFECTIVE ALTERNATIVE DRUG DELIVERY SYSTEMMelt in mouth films are the innovative novel dosage form which serves as an alternative to tablet, capsules and syrups. Due to dysphagia and choking problems in conventional dosage forms, melt in mouth films have glorious impact as novel drug delivery system. These systems are widely utilized nowadays since it improves drug efficacy efficiently since the film gets instantly wet by saliva of mouth and rapidly hydrates causing the film to adhere on to site of application. Mouth dissolving film gains additional popularity since it can be administered without aid of water. Hence pediatric and geriatric population prefers mouth films as remarkable and well acceptable dosage form resulting in high patient compliance. When placed on tongue the film exerts its mechanism of action either by swelling or disintegrating in the salivary fluids within one minute. Drug absorption is facilitated well since it is absorbed from mouth, pharynx and oesophagus. Recently oral films were developed for breath fresheners and also as vitamin supplement. Devoid of unsophisticated equipment and complicated procedures, ease of using in travelling and emergency conditions mouth films offers a convenient way of dosing medications imparting as economically feasible dosage form.
