325ANTIFERTILITY EFFECT OF CARICA PAPAYA LINN. SEED EXTRACT ON HORMONES IN MALE ALBINO RATSThe effect of Carica papaya Linn. (Paw-paw) seed extract on gonadotrophic hormone levels and testosterone levels in control and Carica papaya seed extract administered albino rats was studied. Administration of papaya seed extract (150mg/kg body wt/day for 15 days) to Wistar male rat through oral route affected the reproductive hormone levels. Due to the low levels of testosterone, the hypothalamo- hypopysial axis was inhibited and there by accumulation of gonadotropins was noticed. The hyper gonadotropins noticed in the present study may be due to hypo testosterone levels.
