499ACUTE TOXICITY STUDY AND COMPARATIVE EVALUATION OF MUSCLE RELAXANT ACTIVITY OF ETHANOLIC AND AQUEOUS LEAF EXTRACTS OF CALOPHYLLUM INOPHYLLUM IN SWISS ALBINO MICEThe aim of the present study was to perform acute oral toxicity study and to evaluate and compare the muscle relaxant activity of ethanolic and aqueous leaf extracts of Calophyllum inophyllum on Swiss albino mice. Rotarod model and locomotor activity model were implemented to determine the muscle relaxant activity of the both leaf extracts. Ethanolic and aqueous leaf extracts were administered orally. Acute oral toxicity study was conducted using the OECD guidelines 423 Annexure – 2d. The results indicate the mortality was not observed during the acute oral toxicity study and maximum safe does determined. The muscle relaxant effect of the extracts showed that Calophyllum inophyllum leaf ethanolic extract (CILEE) doses 200mg/kg, 400mg/kg b.w and Calophyllum inophyllum leaf aqueous extract (CILAE) dose 400mg/kg b.w exhibited significant muscle relaxant activity whereas Calophyllum inophyllum leaf aqueous extract dose 200mg/kg b.w did not show any significant activity. The maximum safe dose for acute toxicity studies was found to be 2000mg/kg.
