664STUDY OF ANTIULCER ACTIVITY OF AQUEOUS LEAF EXTRACT OF CRASSOCEPHALUM CREPIDIOIDES USING VARIOUS MODELS OF EXPERIMENTAL GASTRIC ULCER IN RATSPeptic ulcer is one of the major disorders of GIT, for which a large number of traditional and modern medicines are being utilized. The purpose of the present study is to investigate the phytoconstituents, acute oral toxicity and anti-ulcer activities of the Aqueous leaf Extract of Crassocephalum crepidioides (AECC) on albino rats. Preliminary phytochemical analysis of AECC showed the presence of phenolic compounds, flavonoids, tannin, saponins, phytates, ascorbic acid and also showed the absence of alkaloid. Acute oral toxicity study of AECC was found to be safe at the doses 2000mg/kg body weight orally as per OECD 423 guidelines. AECC at the doses of 200 and 400 mg/kg body weight orally was administered to evaluate anti-ulcer activity by using indomethacine induced gastric ulcer and pylorus ligation (PL) with stress induced gastric ulcer for 16 days in Albino rats. Treatment with AECC reduced ulcer index in both gastric ulcer induced models. AECC showed significant decrease in total protein (TP), Serum glutamate oxyloacetic acid Transaminase (SGOT), Serum glutamate pyruvate Transaminase (SGPT) and showed increased in Superoxide dismutase (SOD) and Catalase (CAT) when compared to indomethacine induced group.
