and mixture of them for 30 days. At the end of the study, glucose, aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase
(ALT) enzymes, albumin, total protein and bilirubin have been measured in diabetic rats. In addition, liver lipid peroxide
production malondialdehyde (MDA) and liver superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GP
X
) activities were
also determined. The cinnamaldehyde, hesperidin, and their mixture significantly decrease (P < 0.001) blood glucose level,
AST, ALT, Bilirubin, and liver peroxide production MDA in treated groups but on the other hand they significantly increase (P
< 0.001) total protein, serum albumin levels, liver SOD, and liver GPx activities in treated groups comparing to diabetic con trol
groups. Histopathological investigation of liver of diabetic rats represented the presence of sever changes, meanwhile treatment
overcome this changes and the majority of the cells tend to be normal. This improvement in histology of liver tissue confirms
biochemical tests and may explain the hepatoprotective effect of cinnamaldehyde, hesperidin or their mixture on liver tissue in
induced type I diabetic rats
<Email>ahmed.aboumesalam@57357.com</Email><articletype>Research</articletype><volume>7</volume><issue>2</issue><year>2016</year><keyword>Diabetes,Streptozotocin,Cinnamaldehyde,Hesperidin,Glutathione peroxidase,Superoxide dismutase,Lipid peroxidation</keyword><AUTHORS>Zahran FM,Al-Hussaini AS, Abou-Mesalam AI, Abou-Mesalam AI</AUTHORS><afflication>Chemistry Department, Faculty of Science, Zagazig University, Egypt,Chemistry Department, Faculty of Science, Port Said University, Egypt,Nuclear Medicine Department, Children’s Cancer Hospital – Egypt (CCHE - 57357), Cairo, Egypt,Nuclear Medicine Department, Children’s Cancer Hospital – Egypt (CCHE - 57357), Cairo, Egypt</afflication></Article></Articles>
