antimicrobial bioactive compounds. Hexane, ethyl acetate and methanol extracts from rhizome of Curculigoor chioides were
used for in vitro antimicrobial activity against three gram positive bacteria viz.,Staphylococcus epidermidis, Staphylococcus
aureus, and Micrococcus luteus, three gram negative bacterial strains viz., Enterobactor aerogenes, E.coliand Vibrio
parahaemolyticus. The methanol extracts of C.orchioides showed the highest antimicrobial activity against both the grampositive and gram-negative bacterial strains. The phytochemical analysis carried out revealed the presence of alkaloids,
saponins, flavonoids, glycosides and terpenes. GC-MS analysis showed 3,7-Benzofurandiol, Undecanoic acid, n-Decanoic acid,
6C14H26, 7-Tetradecyne, Cyclopentadecanone are found to be the major fractions with more % of area. Therefore, the present
study justifies the use of C. orchioides in siddha medicine to treat various infectious diseases
<Email>agastian@loyolacollege.edu.in</Email><articletype>Research</articletype><volume>7</volume><issue>9</issue><year>2016</year><keyword>Antibacterial activity, Minimum inhibitory concentration,C. orchioides</keyword><AUTHORS>P.
