FLOWER EXTRACT</JournalTitle>
Plants are the richest source of organic compounds, which are used for medicinal purposes. Herbal plants are the
principal source of medicine in India during ancient and modern times. Nowadays it‟s almost becoming throughout the world.
Butea superba commonly called as Red Kwao Krua was traditionally reported to possess antioxidant activities, aphrodisiac,
estrogenic and antibacterial properties. Hence the present study was carried out to evaluate the phytochemical screening and
antioxidant activity of Butea superba flower extracts dissolved in different solvents. The results of the phytochemical screening
study showed that the highest number of phytochemicals in the acetone solvent extra ct followed by ethanol and aqueous. The
antioxidant activity was found to be the highest in acetone solvent extract which was equivalent to standard Butylated hydroxyl
toluene( BHT) followed by ethanol and aqueous solvent extract. Hence the phytochemicals present in Butea superba flower
extract confirmed to possess antioxidant property
<Email>mgragunathan@yahoo.co.in</Email><articletype>Research</articletype><volume>7</volume><issue>9</issue><year>2016</year><keyword>Butea superba, Phytochemicals, Butylated hydroxyl toluene</keyword><AUTHORS>Vijayan S,Seethalakshmi B,Jayanthi J,Ragunathan MG</AUTHORS><afflication>Department of Advanced Zoology and Biotechnology, Guru Nanak College, Velachery, Chennai-42, Tamilnadu, India.
