<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?><Articles><Article><id>804</id><JournalTitle>IL-4-rs2243250 GENE POLYMORPHISM DOES NOT CONFER TO SUSCEPTIBILITY OF CORONARY ARTERY DISEASE IN NORTH INDIAN POPULATION</JournalTitle><Abstract>Interleukin 4 (IL-4) is mainly secreted by activated T cells and mononuclear cells and mediates the humoral immune response and act as anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and by changing the expression profile of macrophages. The aim of this study is to investigate the role of IL-4 gene polymorphism with risk markers of the CAD. The IL-4 589C/T polymorphism has been studied in 135 diagnosed CAD subjects (Age 52.26Â± 10.66; BMI 23.95Â± 3.36) and 135 healthy controls (Age 52.43Â± 10.98; BMI 24.91 Â± 9.89). The -589C/T gene variant was detected by real time PCR by using Taqman SNP genotyping assay and serum IL-4 level were also measured by ELISA. We have found higher significant difference in DBP, Glucose, TG, TC, VLDL, LDL, TC/HDL and LDL/HDL however, HDL and HDL/LDL ratio were found lower in case as compared to controls. Homozygous variant genotype (CC v/s CT+TT) (p=0.143: OR=1.47: 95% CI= 0.91-2.38) and variant allele (T) (p=0.154 OR=1.33: 95% CI= 0.918-1.95) of the C-589T IL-4 polymorphism was not found significant in the CAD population.
